    Happy 5th Birthday Seabrae Manor!

    Seabrae Manor has celebrated their 5th Birthday! The home opened on the 1st July 2014 and since then has been thriving. The day was filled with celebrations. Residents, staff family and friends were all invited to this momentous event. Everyone toasted with champagne and laughter, fond memories and prospects of the future.     The Ekka of Yesteryear!

    The Ekka is the annual show of Queensland and the first ever show was held in 1921. The formal title is the Royal Queensland Show, and it is held at the Brisbane Showgrounds. It was originally called the Brisbane Exhibition, but it is more commonly known as the "Ekka", short for "exhibition". Every year, Seabrae Manor host their very own Ekka celebration.     Teddy Bear Picnic

    Residents were invited to attend our Teddy Bears Picnic. Everyone was encouraged to bring along a special teddy bear or stuffed animal to the picnic. Big Bears, Small Bears, there were teddy bears everywhere, even a few Bears had travelled near and far to be at this special picnic!     Our wishing well provides an opportunity for residents, to do something or engage in an activity that they have always wanted to do, or to re-experience a past pleasure activity.     Do you want to play Bocce?

    Residents competed in a friendly yet focused game of Bocce. Their competitive spirits usually shine through with a dash of laughter and encouragement. Bocce is a ball sport with ancestry from ancient games played in the Roman Empire. Bocce was initially played amongst Italian migrants to Australia but has over time become more popular in the wider community. The sport has won over residents at Seabrae Manor Aged Care.     What better way to pass time on a grey Sunday afternoon, than siting amongst friends, knitting, chatting and singing along to all your favourite songs.     What the men got upto on a day out!

    Some of our residents and volunteers recently visited the Pine River Men’s Shed in the quaint Old Petrie Town. They were welcomed with a wonderful morning tea that included meat pies. All the residents were taken on a guided tour with demonstrations of what they do in the great shed. They even got to see a guitar being made!     Front Row Seat at the Andrew Sisters Concert!

    Residents were wowed as they attended the Andrew Sisters tribute show recently at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre. The Andrews Sisters are an American close harmony singing group of the swing and boogie-woogie eras. The group comprised of three sisters; LaVerne, Maxene, and Patricia ‘Patty’ Andrews.     We Won an Excellence Award!

    Seabrae Manor has been awarded the Petrie Electorate Excellence in Aged Care award. This award was presented to our home by no other but the Federal Member for Petrie, Luke Howarth.     Celebrations kicked off a little early at Seabrae Manor for St Patrick’s Day. We celebrated with an Irish afternoon tea where all the food was green!     Laughter at the Coffee Hub

    They say laughter is the best medicine, so Seabrae Manor Aged Care wanted to put this to the test. Residents were surprised with a new ‘laughter’ activity that was held in the coffee hub.     Beautiful Wings Project

    Over the last 8 weeks, residents at Seabrae Manor Aged Care has been producing a special art project. They have been busy working around the clock by colouring, painting and cutting over 260 feathers to create a beautiful set of Angel inspired wings. Originally this was a group activity, with only a few residents working on the feathers, but it gained momentum and more residents joined in along the way!     Random Acts of Kindness

    Seabrae Manor Aged Care have a ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ activity. This activity allows staff and family members to nominate a worthy staff member, who has gone out of their way, showed a little extra kindness, or made a difference in somebody else’s life.     Happy Waitangi Day!

    Seabrae Manor Aged Care recently celebrated Waitangi Day. This is New Zealand’s National Day and a public Holiday, similar to our Australia Day. Waitangi Day commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi back on the 6th February 1840. The treaty was signed by representatives acting on behalf of the British Crown and approximately 45 Maori chiefs from around the country. It is regarding as New Zealand’s founding document.     Luau Afternoon!

    Just another Friday afternoon at Seabrae Manor Aged Care. This week we have chosen to celebrate throwing a Hawaiian Luau cocktail party.     Next Stop, Memory Lane!

    The Memory Lane Bus Stop is an addition to our Memory Lane Store. The store was created for residents who suffer from Dementia and Alzheimer’s. One of the effects of Alzheimer’s is a yearning to ‘go home’. The idea behind the Memory Lane Bus Stop was to prevent residents wandering away and trying to access public transport.
