Five steps to entry into an aged care home...
If you or a loved one is considering moving into an aged care home that is subsidised by the Australia Government, there are 5 steps you will need to follow before moving in.
1. Are you eligible?
The first step is to arrange a free assessment with an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). The assessment is usually undertaken by a Doctor and/or other health professionals.
2. Finding an aged care home?
Each home is different. Therefore it is important that the home meets your needs. To search for aged care homes refer to www.myagedcare.gov.au
3. What do you need to pay?
You may be asked to pay towards your care, accommodation and daily living costs. How much you pay depends on your financial situation. Refer to our ‘Fees and Payments’ section for an explanation of fees and payments or www.myagedcare.gov.au
4. How do you apply for an aged care home?

5. What is it like to live in an aged care home?
If you are offered a place by an aged care home, you will be required to enter into a formal residential agreement before moving in outlining services, fees, and rights and responsibilities.
