Autumn was a season of milestones at Seabrae Manor, and the latest edition of The Seabrae Sentinel captures it all. From the opening of our new wing to two remarkable 100th birthdays, there is plenty to catch up on in our autumn newsletter.

Welcome to Chapman House

This quarter marked the grand opening of Chapman House, our new wing named in honour of Janet Chapman, a long-serving leader whose work quietly shaped the way we care for one another today. The first residents to move in have already made it home, and the house was soon filled with active games, laughter and friendly competition.

Our Facility Manager, Esther, also shares a warm welcome to the many new residents who have joined us, along with helpful guidance for residents and families settling into life at Seabrae. You will also meet Kate, who joins our team as a Clinical Care Coordinator, working alongside Angie to support residents in Kabi and Chapman.

Two 100th birthdays

We had the pleasure of celebrating two very special milestones this season. Friends, family and staff gathered as Des marked his century, receiving recognition from the RSL and a message from the King and Queen. Mavis followed soon after, celebrating her 100th birthday surrounded by family, cake and smiles. Congratulations to them both.

A season of celebrations

There was no shortage of special occasions this autumn. St Patrick’s Day brought potato bowls, gold coin tosses, themed bingo and plenty of green. Harmony Day saw our staff dress in beautiful cultural attire and share dishes from around the world, a lovely reflection of the many cultures that make up our community.

Easter arrived with a morning tea, presents and a visit from the Easter Bunny, while Mother’s Day treated our mums to a glamorous photoshoot and a special high tea filled with laughter and sweet treats.

We also hosted Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in the new Chapman House, with a talented harpist setting the mood, yellow and blue worn throughout the room, and over $290 raised for a wonderful cause.

Music, art and new life

Ye Old Brass Band had everyone singing along to old favourites, and music therapy, watercolour classes and happy hour entertainment kept the weekly calendar full. One of the loveliest moments of the season came when three little chicks hatched right before our eyes, bringing joy throughout the home as residents watched them grow.

Out and about

Our outings stirred up plenty of memories this quarter. We picnicked by the water at Shorncliffe pier, explored the exhibits at the Redcliffe Museum, and enjoyed a fish and chip lunch on Bribie Island, where some of us returned for the first time in more than 50 years.

Meet the people of Seabrae

This edition introduces Keely, one of our Lifestyle Assistants, who shares how a student placement turned into a career she loves. You will also meet resident Jim, a former motorsport competitor whose recent trip to Scotland and England included a reunion sixty years in the making.

Nirosh from our kitchen team shares a delicious recipe for silverbeet, fennel and ricotta cannelloni, and Janet, our State Quality Manager, covers winter vaccinations and the Code of Conduct for Aged Care.
