Getting Started
Making the move to residential aged care can feel overwhelming — but you don’t have to navigate the process alone.
Our five-step guide explains how to apply for aged care, what to consider when choosing an aged care home, and how Seabrae Manor can support you throughout the journey.
Step one
Assess Your Eligibility
To access government-funded residential aged care, you’ll first need an assessment through the Single Assessment System (SAS). A trained assessor will talk with you about your care needs, health, daily activities and what support you may require.
You can contact the Single Assessment System directly, or your GP, social worker or family member can help you with the process. Following your assessment, you’ll receive an outcome that outlines the types of aged care services you’re eligible to access. You can then use this information when speaking with aged care providers.
Understanding your aged care costs
You’ll also need to complete an income and assets assessment through Services Australia to help determine the aged care fees and costs you may be required to pay.
These assessments can take some time, so we recommend starting your care assessment and income and assets assessment as early as possible.
You may also wish to speak with an independent financial adviser who specialises in aged care. They can help you understand your options and make informed financial decisions based on your individual circumstances.
Step two
Choosing the Right Aged Care Home
Choosing an aged care home is an important decision. It’s worth visiting a few homes, asking questions and thinking about what matters most to you and your family.
We invite you and your loved ones to book a private tour of Seabrae Manor, and we encourage you to visit other aged care homes in your preferred location too. Taking the time to compare your options can help you find a home that feels right for you.
What to consider when choosing an aged care home
Before you visit any aged care home, think about what is important to you.
