May 2026: milestones, new beginnings, and moments to treasure at Seabrae Manor

May 2026 was one of the most memorable months in recent memory at Seabrae Manor, and we are so proud to share it with you.
The month began with our dear resident Des celebrating his 100th birthday, surrounded by family, fellow residents, and staff who love him dearly. What made the occasion even more extraordinary was watching Des receive formal recognition from the RSL and a message from the King and Queen. Happy birthday, Des. What an honour to share that moment with you.

May also marked a landmark occasion for our entire community with the opening of Chapman House, our beautiful new wing. Watching our first residents settle in and begin making it their own was a moment of real pride for everyone at Seabrae Manor. Chapman House carries a name chosen with care and gratitude, honouring Janet Chapman, a long-serving leader whose quiet dedication helped shape the way we care for people today. Welcome home.

Chapman House quickly became the heart of some wonderful activity. Active games sessions filled the new space with laughter and friendly competition, supporting our residents’ mobility, coordination, and overall wellbeing. We also hosted the Biggest Morning Tea there, with a talented harpist creating a beautiful atmosphere and a sea of yellow and blue worn proudly by staff and residents alike. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and attended. In the lead-up to the event, our residents took part in a wonderful art therapy session inspired by the occasion, and we are hopeful that some of their beautiful pieces will be entered into the upcoming Redcliffe Show.

We also celebrated the incredible Mavis on her 100th birthday. Surrounded by family, residents, and staff, the day was full of cake, smiles, and memories. Reaching 100 years of age is an extraordinary achievement, and Mavis continues to inspire everyone around her with her warmth and beautiful spirit.

Mother’s Day was marked with a glamorous photoshoot and a High Tea full of laughter, love, sweet treats, and wonderful memories. Our residents looked absolutely stunning, and the afternoon was every bit as special as they deserved.

We headed out on a fish and chip lunch outing to Bribie Island during the month, a trip that stirred something deep for many of our residents, some of whom had not visited in over 50 years. The stories they shared about catching the ferry across, and the wonder at how much the island has changed, made it one of those outings that lingers long after you return home.

And in what was perhaps the most magical moment of the month, our residents gathered to watch three little chicks hatch right before their eyes. From the first tiny cracks in the shell to the softest, fluffiest new life, the room was full of smiles, gasps, and more than a few happy tears.

What a month it was. We are so grateful for this community, and for every single moment we get to share together.
